Skills Network, Digital Marketing Course

I’ve always been keen to keep up to date with my digital skills, especially now that I work as a freelancer. I saw the value of learning more about Digital Marketing in order to promote myself and hopefully gain more clients so took the, Skills Networks Digital Marketing Course.

INTRODUCTION

At first the thought of committing myself to a 14 week course a bit daunting but in fact the time has just flown by. I’m at WEEK 8 already. I’ve learned a lot so far from, 'search engine optimisation' to learning about all the different roles that make up a marketing team.

WEEK 1

After some time meeting other members of my new course, we began to plan making our brand, spanking-new portfolio websites via the WIX website builder. I had my design work online but I could see how this new website would be a better showcase of my work and new marketing skills. WIX is impressive – easy to use but with sophisticated features like SEO integration and e-commerce capabilities. Will definitely be using this in future when designing new sites.

WEEK 2

They said I’d never last! Today I learned how to use the CapCut application for creating ‘reels’ I had some motion graphics experience already which gave me a bit of a head start in making a video for a tennis club called, The Mossley Hill tennis club in Liverpool. I was struck by how easily you can make a video in the app and it was great to create some work in such a short time. Then we uploaded our videos to our own YouTube channels and I shared my effort with the group.

WEEK 3

And I’m creating an Anti-vape campaign. I still need to work on this as I hadn’t written anything like this before – it’s been a long time since I wrote anything like school essays but there was a lot of information online which helped. The design was put together in Canva. It was great to learn a new app. again. We also made a new website to promote our campaigns. As part of this process I learned how to make research surveys and then analyse the results too which is a great skill to have moving forward.

WEEK 4

I’d known about the importance of SEO in marketing and how it can promote your website. Through the course I’ve gained a better understanding of SEO strategies like using keywords. Using a website like Semrush you get live updates of your sites keyword effectiveness. My website has moved up the Google rankings as a result.

WEEK 5

Email marketing too had been an interest of mine prior to the course so it was great to design an advert for a Furniture company as homework. I researched the business and decided on a better theme for their marketing campaign.

WEEK 6

We chose a charity to promote via the CaptCut video content app. It was great to promote The Trussell Trust in my case as I’ve been forced to use food banks recently and thought it would be great to ‘give back’ in a small way. My video highlights their 'Essentials Campaign' and it shows how to donate to them too. I’m going to contact them to see if I can help out promoting them in future.

WEEK 7

And over half way through the course. I’ve learned lots of useful stuff so far and I’m looking forward to seeing the rest has in store. I want to continue developing my portfolio and getting lots of views. If any potential clients see this and you need freelance design help please contact me as I am a designer for all seasons – see what I did there? Thanks.
